Journeys in Film (JiF) operates on the belief that the storytelling power of film can educate the most visually literate generation in history. Through their own desire to be entertained, students become captivated learners. For more than a decade, Journeys in Film has been pioneering the use of film for interdisciplinary lessons in the secondary classroom. We do this by designing and publishing educational resources (free of cost to teachers) to accompany feature films and documentaries while meeting mandated standards in all core subjects. Leading content scholars, curriculum writers, and cultural specialists develop lesson plans in science, math, social studies, language arts, cross-cultural understanding, media literacy, and visual arts. The curriculum guides help teachers integrate these films into their classrooms and provide a springboard for teaching and learning in both formal and informal spaces. Students are encouraged to be active rather than passive viewers and are challenged to examine how their own experiences influence their perceptions of others.
