SIE Foundation Fiscal Sponsorship Program FAQ

1How Can My Project Benefit from Fiscal Sponsorship?
Fiscal sponsorship offers a strategic fundraising advantage by expanding your financial support options. Many donors, foundations, and corporations prefer contributing to established 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations that can provide tax-deductible receipts. Fiscal sponsorship enables you to qualify for and accept such contributions without needing to establish your own tax-exempt entity. It also saves you the time and cost of setting up a tax-exempt organization independently.
2Does the SIE Foundation Fundraise on My Behalf?
No, the SIE Foundation does not conduct fundraising for your project or submit grant applications on your behalf. You are responsible for your own fundraising efforts. We will support your project by featuring it on our website, and promoting your project and its fundraising campaigns through our newsletter and social media channels.
3Can I Apply for Grants That Don’t Require a Fiscal Sponsor?
Yes, you are free to seek and apply for grants that don’t require a fiscal sponsor. The SIE Foundation aims to broaden your funding opportunities, not restrict them. You can accept funds from other sources outside of your fiscal sponsorship with the SIE Foundation.
4When Should I Apply for Fiscal Sponsorship with the SIE Foundation?
The SIE Foundation accepts projects at any stage—development, pre-production, production, post-production, distribution, or impact campaign. Your application should include a detailed project budget.
5Do I Need to Sign a Contract with the SIE Foundation?
Yes, submitting an application indicates your agreement to our fiscal sponsorship grant agreement. Please review this agreement carefully before applying.
6How Long Does the Review Process Take?
Most applications are reviewed within four weeks. For expedited reviews, please contact info@siesociety.org with your situation details.
7How Detailed Should My Budget Be?
Submit a detailed and thorough budget with well-researched estimates for all expected expenses. While we understand costs may change, your initial budget should be as accurate as possible.
8Can Non-U.S. Citizens Apply for Fiscal Sponsorship with the SIE Foundation?
Yes, you can apply regardless of your citizenship. However, our services are most beneficial if you are seeking donations from U.S. entities, as the tax receipts we issue are valid only for U.S. tax residents. Ensure compliance with your local tax regulations and consult a tax advisor in your country for accurate reporting.
